Following the success of the
“Wellep Infinitely Variable
Headplate System” the Wellep Saddle Company was formed as an associate of
Wellep Equestrian International (UK) to produce and market an exclusive range
of Wellep System Saddles made to individual requirements in limited
numbers. This is the SANS PAREIL range, to which Wellep have now
added the PRATIQUE range of top quality volume production saddles.
THE TREE
(see the Sans
Pareil range)
All saddles in the
PRATIQUE range are built on
traditionally constructed Wellep laminated beech wood spring trees of special
design and incorporate the Wellep Infinitely Variable Headplate System. The
improved tempered steel 'springs' give resilience to the seat and are of
greater strength than is usual. This
ensures that the shape of the tree and its balance is constantly maintained.
THE ADJUSTMENT KEY
(see the Sans
Pareil range)
The variable headplate is simply adjusted by pulling
back the protective flap and inserting the key. The key is pulled forward to close the head and backwards to
open it. (see the Sans Pareil
range)
The
key will 'flex'
when the maximum adjustment point is reached so that the mechanism is not
subjected to unnecessary strain.
The mechanism is
designed so that it is impossible for it to be closed or opened beyond the set parameters. It also incorporates
built-in safeguards to prevent the adjustment being altered by vibration such as may be caused by the horse's movement. The only way the
adjustment can be altered is by using the key.
THE STIRRUP BARS
(see the Sans Pareil range)
With the exception of the jumping models, on which a
bar adjustment is unnecessary, all saddles in the range are fitted with
stainless steel Wellep Adjustable Stirrup Bars which can be altered (by
selecting any one of five positions) to suit the length of the rider's leg and
to obtain a correct riding position. (To a degree the variable headplate can
also be used in conjunction with the bars to influence the disposition of the
rider's weight and position.)
THE SELF-BALANCING GIRTH SYSTEM
(see the Sans Pareil range)
All the
PRATIQUE saddles
incorporate the original Wellep self-balancing girth system. This
ensures that the girth lies flat in the sternum curve (the equine equivalent
of the human waist) whatever the horse's, conformation, and that an equal
tension is placed on all four saddle straps at all times. In consequence, and as a direct result of an accurately fitted saddle,
the saddle is firmly secured in the correct position without the girth having
to be adjusted excessively tightly.
THE MEMORY-PANELS
(see the Sans Pareil range)
All models are built with French-type panels
which provide the largest possible bearing surface, allowing the weight to be
distributed over a wide area. However, the ability to adjust the headplate, to
give a precise fit, allows the
panels to be so slim as to give the rider what is virtually a bare-back
contact/experience.
The panels are made of laminated
memory foam. They are shaped to the back conformation and have the capacity to
mould themselves to the individual horse, returning to the original shape when
the saddle is removed. They need no maintenance; alterations to a particular
profile being made with the headplate; they are resilient and there is no possibility of the surface developing the
irregularities, resulting in bruising or pressure points, which can occur in
the old type wool stuffed panels. (The adjustable headplate
obviates the necessity for this type of panel. Formerly it was only by
regulating the flocking that adjustments could be made to the fit.)
THE LEATHER
(see the Sans Pareil range)
The choice of leather was made by world famous
authorities in Walsall, the traditional home of superb English saddlery. The
Wellep Saddle Co make their saddles in a unique stretch leather and the
standard colours available are Havana , Brown or Black. The colouring dyes
used are virtually fast when treated with an appropriate leather dressing
prior to use.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
It is advisable to treat the saddle with a good quality
leather dressing before it is put into use. The top of the saddle should be cleaned regularly with
glycerine saddle soap applied with a barely damp sponge. At periodic intervals (once a week is sufficient) the saddle should be
treated with the leather dressing, otherwise it should be cleaned after use,
dirt and sweat being removed.
Do
not dry a saddle by artificial means i.e., fires, heaters, radiators etc. which will dry out the grease content and cause the
leather to crack. Let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated room. After cleaning keep the saddle on a saddle-rack or saddle-horse open to
the circulation of air.
When it is necessary to put a saddle on the ground,
place it head down with the seat towards a wall or something similar with
the cantle resting against the latter.
Do not store saddles in polythene
bags - they are subject to heavy condensation. Use instead a bag or cover of cotton or
linen.
